Intimate 4 × 4" and 3 × 5" works, each a complete world in a small format. Clay monoprint combined with encaustic wax, mounted on deep 1.5" wood cradled panels.
Artist statement
Inspired by nature and everyday surroundings, Judy creates richly layered abstract work exploring rhythm, memory, pattern, and the traces that time leaves behind. Each piece becomes a conversation between control and chance.
A round series in clay monotype and encaustic, from four to eight inches across.
Discover the hands-on processes, materials, and layers that shape Judy Frank’s distinctive encaustic and clay monoprint works.
A slab of clay becomes the printing surface. Images are built directly in layers of colored slips and pigments, then transferred onto paper or panel. Because the clay holds every trace, each print contains variations and surprises that cannot be exactly repeated.
An ancient process using heated beeswax combined with resin and pigment. The materials are applied in layers, each fused with heat. The translucent quality of the wax allows imagery beneath the surface to remain visible, creating depth, texture, and luminosity that can only exist in the physical object.
